This project involved creating a cohesive advertising campaign for a vintage vehicle that reflected the design trends and marketing style of its era. The assignment included developing a print flyer and billboard advertisement while maintaining a consistent visual identity across both formats. I chose the 1977 Dodge Sportsman because of my personal connection to van life. Having spent ten years living and working from a van while traveling for seasonal jobs, I wanted to create a campaign that celebrated the freedom, adventure, and independence these vehicles represent.
Inspired by the optimistic advertising of the late 1970s, I developed a campaign centered around exploration and life on the open road. The bright sunset palette, flowing graphic elements, and playful headlines evoke the era while reinforcing the vehicle's association with travel and adventure. Rather than focusing solely on the van's specifications, the campaign sells the lifestyle, encouraging viewers to imagine road trips, coastal sunsets, and the freedom to create their own journey.
The Dodge Sportsman was illustrated as vector artwork in Adobe Illustrator, allowing the vehicle to be scaled and reused across multiple formats while preserving detail. I combined two photographic landscapes in Adobe Photoshop to create custom backgrounds before assembling the final billboard and flyer layouts in Adobe InDesign. The project required adapting the same campaign across different advertising formats while maintaining visual consistency, hierarchy, and brand recognition.
